On Saturday, 8/29, we visited the school to check its progress. Although the roof was installed, multiple areas were still open. We had assumed this would have been finished as a part of the rebuild, but we learned that this required additional funding. After receiving the cost estimate, we were able to fund the additional work. The walls and roof are now fully intact and enclosed.

Sunday, 8/30, we were up early for the 5:30am prayer service at the Salvation Army Church. Power was out, so early prayer in the dark! We then attended the regular service at 10am and said our goodbyes. The church sent us off with their blessings for safe travels. Since we were obliged to travel to Nairobi on Monday, we decided to see if it was possible to get an earlier flight back home. We were able to change our flight to Wednesday.

Monday, 8/31, we left early to pick up Captain Getray and her daughter who were traveling back to Nairobi with us so we could drop them off at the university. We had a long trip, approximately 8 hours back to Nairobi.

We arrived at the university and safely delivered Getray and her daughter, Mercelyne. Shortly after that we were back at Enos’s home.

The next two days were filled with preparations for our travel back home. Shopping for some souvenir items I wanted to take home and discussions on the balance of the year’s ministry in Kenya. We visited Amson School in Mathare, a slum in Nairobi, with Enos to see the repair of a fire damage they had in June and had a short visit with the children who were in the middle of their exams.

Early on in our trip, we were asked by one of the pastors in the village if we could meet with a leader from The World Mission Church while in Nairobi. We were able to set up a meeting. After arriving in the area, we had to call for help to find the exact place. We were in another slum area within Nairobi. This was a school, orphanage, and church. We were able to greet the children and staff of the school and then share a meal with the leaders. We discussed our mission and they explained theirs to us.

We left Nairobi on Wednesday night 9/2 and arrived home Thursday 9/3 after being diverted to Dallas airport for refueling and to wait out the storm in Houston. About an hour later we were able to take off for Houston and arrived 4 hrs. later home! What is a couple of hrs. extra on a 26-hr. flight?

Monday, 9/7, we received the bid on completing the windows and doors needed for the Bukura Primary School project. We received enough funds to meet this need. God is so good.

Observation:

We prayed for opening of doors to the ministry of discipleship and meeting with local churches and pastors. God provided many opportunities and occasions for teaching and having a dialogue with leaders of what discipleship and its practical application means in today’s culture based on what Jesus modeled with His twelve disciples in scripture.

In addition, this trip also provided for a specific purpose to support the community of Bukura by helping to do the necessary work needed to rebuild a condemned building at the Bukura Primary School. We were able to raise, with your support, a total of 85% of the projected goal. This is wonderful!

To complete the work after the windows and doors are installed; plaster the inside and outside of walls, floor, glass for windows and paint. We prompted the school to see if local donors and parents can step up to help. Once the windows and doors are in place, the building will be habitable. The finishing will not prevent classes from being held again. Praise God.

Our Kenyan ministry partner, Enos will be visiting the US by the end of this week.

This trip we felt God’s presence every step of the way, He is so good to His children.
