We left Houston May 24th and arrived in Nairobi on the 25th after 23 hrs. of travel for our two and halve month Ministry trip. We used the week to acclimate to the time change and getting the car serviced for the upcoming trip to the village. Tuesday June 3rd, we ventured on our own to the village of Bukura after we gassed up the car at 174 Kenyan shillings = $1.35/liter.

In the city of Nairobi there is much growth. I noticed many new buildings, asking Google to confirm if the city is growing, yes, more people are moving for work and the birthrate is up. It took us over 90 minutes to get out of Nairobi especially since we took a wrong turn which took us into downtown. Driving on the wrong side of the road makes it a challenge!

As we journeyed to the village, we noticed new service stations were being constructed or in process. These usually have gas and a store/food service of some kind. Most importantly, toilets!

When we were about 40km out from Kisumu our car started to have issues. We prayed!! The car was not able to operate at full power. So, we limped to Kisumu to a car service shop where we were able to diagnose the problem, a sensor. They could not repair it, but the sensor reset itself and we were able to continue to our destination, approx. 75 minutes left of travel. Praise God!  We will have it looked at when we return to Nairobi since this service is not available in the area.

The last part of the trip we experienced heavy rain and hail before we arrived at our home in the village. Driving in Kenya is very challenging. Besides driving on the left, the roads are full of potholes, plenty of extra-large speed bumps at various unexpected locations and of course no streetlights. Praise God for Google maps!  Esther, Enos’s mom and Dorcas, the housekeeper, were there to greet us.  Dorcas was preparing a meal for us. The rain let up so we could unload the car.

This morning, we took an inventory of the groceries needed in the home and went shopping in Kakamega, a larger city about a 35-minute drive.

While we were in Nairobi, we had discussions with Enos as to the vision, (see previous blog post), we believe God has given us for ministry in 2025. Now that we are in the village with Enos arriving in a few days, we can begin to visually form a plan by walking the plot and assessing the surrounding area and prioritize the stages of our vision. Watch for future blog posts.

Please continue to pray for God’s plan to be revealed as we proceed.
