Mission Trip July 21, 2026

We left Houston on Tuesday July 7th. Two days prior to our departure, we received a notice of our flight cancellation, and we were rebooked on the same day. We ended up leaving 2 hrs. later and would have arrived 1 hr. earlier. This was not too bad if it wasn't for the fact that our second leg of the journey through Paris was delayed by mechanical problems on the plane we already boarded for take-off. Seven hrs. later we left on another plane to Nairobi. Our arrival ended up being early Thursday morning. By the time we arrived at the home of Enos who picked us up, we were able to crash after 40+ hrs. of travel.

We spent our first week adjusting to the time zone +8 hours and getting some rest. There was work to be done on our vehicle, so in the shop we went!

Enos’s sister Gladys and her husband Emmanuel have a church that just celebrated its first year.  It’s located on the outskirts of Nairobi. We had the opportunity to celebrate Sunday service with them prior to leaving for the village.

The next day, July 13^th, we left for the village where we will be staying most of the time. Our drive was 9+ hours. We snapped a few pictures as we passed some zebras and the sign noting that we were crossing the equator.

We’ve been ‘home’ a week now.  We attended the same Salvation Army Church we were a part of last year for their Sunday service and were introduced to their new pastors, Captain David and Rebecca. We set up a meeting for Tuesday and invited them to our home to meet and get to know each other better.

Sunday night we had the opportunity to show the World Cup Final by projector to anyone that was able to attend. Keep in mind the time zone. The match started at 10pm here. Due to overtime play we arrived back home Monday morning around 2am.

Monday, July 20^th we met with the principle of the primary/elementary school that is next to the church, Bukura Primary. This school has preschool, elementary, and middle school classes serving 966 students. This is the school that our friend Enos attended as a boy.

We learned that several of their buildings had been condemned and they would have to move out if repairs were not made to the structures. The government pays for a portion of the repairs but doesn’t cover the resurfacing of the flooring and walls and installing new windows. The parents and community are expected to raise the balance.

Enos is part of the committee that will be holding a fundraiser on July 31^st. We took some pictures with the permission of the school principal of the buildings that need work.

They need to raise 2 million KES, $15,500.00 USD. In the pictures you can see new roofs. These were provided by the government. Currently the classrooms that cannot be used are moved to the church building where the regular service is during the weekdays.  This interferes with church meetings and activities.

They also need to provide electric power for the staff building that houses the administrative offices. Up until now this has been without any power.

Joshua Ministry was able to provide the funds needed for this project and the work will be starting soon. Praise God! We are praying that the fundraiser is successful and we’re reaching out to our supporters at home for any support to lighten the load on the community.

Education is not free. There are several fees that students must pay and this burden can prevent the children from getting their education. Thank you for your consideration.

Today, Tuesday, we had lunch with Captain David and Rebecca along with deacon Raidon from the church. Dorcus and Esther prepared and served us a wonderful meal.

We had great time of conversation and sharing our visions for ministry. We look forward to the opportunities God brings our way. We were invited to join them next Sunday morning for early prayer that meets at 5:30 am.
